| Jalal HALWANI (45 years) holds a B.Sc. of Chemical Engineering & a PhD in Chemistry & Environment. Professor in Lebanese University (LU) and Head of Health & Environment Department in Tripoli. In addition to his academic & administrative responsibilities in LU since 1992, He has ten years of working experience in Water & Environment field in Lebanon. He is the Head of Environment Committee in Federation of Arab Engineers since 2001 & actual Chairman of Watmed (Water in Mediterranean Basin) Organization. He’s the President of The Lebanese Committee for Environment & Sustainable Development and Legal Expert Engineer to North Lebanon Courts. He is fluent in French, English & Arabic. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE • Former Adviser to Lebanese Minister of Education & Higher Education (2003-2004). • Former Council Member of Engineers Order in Tripoli – Lebanon, (2000-2003) • Honary Editorial consultant in Arab Water World Magazine. • Member of Scientific & Editorial Committee of International Journal of Nuclear Desalination. • Former Consultant in Lebanese Ministry of Environment for the project of National Industrial Waste Management Plan (1996-1997). • Former Head of the Sanitary Office and Fighting Pollution in the “Environment Protection Committee in North Lebanon” (1998-2002). • Former Secretary of Palm Isle Natural Reserve Committee - Ministry of Environment – Lebanon (1998-2002). • Member of Water & Environment Sciences Consultative Scientific Group in the National Council for Scientific Research in Lebanon (1997-2000). • Co-president of the organization committee of the First French-Lebanese Symposium on Water and Health (Beirut, 15-17 October 1998). • Member of scientific committee of the International Colloquium, Oasis, Water and Population, 22 - 24 September 2003, BISKRA, Algeria. • Member of scientific committee of the International Workshop on Water in the Mediterranean Basin (WATMED1): Resources and Sustainable Development (Tunisia, 10-13 October 2002) & WATMED2, (Marrakech 17-19 November 2005) • Former Member of Scientific Committee in the Engineers Order in North Lebanon (1998-2003). • Former member of council of Federation of Lebanese Engineers (2000-2001). |
